Prof. Heneghan is a graduate of NUI Galway, where she also earned her PhD in 2012, focusing on the molecular expression of breast cancer and obesity. She completed her basic surgical training at Galway University Hospital and the RCSI Higher Surgical Training scheme in General Surgery in 2016. During her training, Prof. Heneghan gained extensive experience at the Bariatric Metabolic Institute in Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, and later completed a Bariatric Fellowship in the UK, specifically in Chester and Liverpool. She has co-authored 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals and contributed five book chapters on bariatric and endocrine surgery.
