The removal process for an Endoscopic gastric balloon is similar to the insertion procedure. To begin, a local anaesthetic spray will be used to numb your throat. Your consultant will then insert a flexible telescope called an endoscope through your mouth and into your stomach.
Once the endoscope is in place, the balloon will be punctured to deflate it, and it will be carefully removed through your mouth. The entire removal procedure typically lasts around 15 minutes. While it is generally not painful, you may be offered a sedative to help you relax during the process.
For the Allurion, one of the attractive aspects of a swallowable balloon package is that there is no removal procedure. You don’t have to worry about attending a hospital for a procedure or taking time off work etc. The clever technology in the balloon knows when your removal is due and will do the rest for you.
